Hand-caned Italian Mahogany Armchair

Choosing the right wood to construct and carve pieces for a mahogany chair is an important and essential first step. This chair arrived at the workshop severely damaged, with several large pieces of mahogany missing from around the joints. The wood chosen to recreate the missing pieces had to match the color and texture of the original, and also meet the requirements for a durable and useful chair. This chair was re-caned by hand and French polish was applied.
